Want to add some sparkle to your look, but don’t know how? Here are tips to making glitter makeup work for you.

How to Make Glitter Makeup Work

Adding a bit of glitter to your makeup can instantly glam up any look. However, with the mess involved in glitter makeup, applying that sprinkle of fairy dust can be difficult. It isn’t easy working with glitter, especially when it’s loose and powdery. While glitter is more complicated than your relationship, wearing it isn’t impossible.

The key to wearing glitter is to always prime before applying glitter. Our girl Nikkie from NikkieTutorials uses the I Make You Beautiful Bionic Gel Activator in one of her tutorials as a primer and baby, it looks good.

However, you can use other products like Too Faced Shadow Insuance Glitter Glue, which is one of the best-selling eyeshadow primers on the market.

If you’re on a tight budget, E.L.F. Cosmetics Glitter Primer is a great option. It preps your eyelids for smoother application. It also helps keep the glitter in place so that it doesn’t transfer throughout the day.

Now that you know which primers to look for, how does one even apply glitter on their face? When it comes to glitter makeup, the struggle is real and patience really is a virtue. Nikkie has also taught us that the best way to apply glitter is to press it onto your lids. Pat or dab the brush, but don’t drag or sweep it as this will cause the glitter to fall.

In addition to the right primer and technique, you’ll also need the right tools when applying glitter makeup. Using a flat synthetic brush will help you achieve that sparkling look. The best brushes are the Sigma E58 and MAC 242. A flat brush will give you more control during application.

You may also use Make Up Forever 224 Silicone Applicator. This brush is designed to catch excess glitter that will inevitably fall during application. The best part about this brush is that it keeps your makeup and vanity table mess-free!

E.L.F. Cosmetics Studio Glitter Eyeshadow Applicator is a good dupe if you want to save some bucks. This is a huge help when it comes to keeping glitter in place.

A friendly reminder though is that wearing glitter is always risky. Never EVER use craft glitter on your face, especially on your eyes. Craft and cosmetic glitter are two totally different things, so if you’re going to try glitter makeup, start with the right tools, right primer, and right glitter.

Other than that, have fun! Glitter has made a huge comeback this year and we couldn’t be more excited to see all of the glam, sparkly looks people are creating with their makeup. Show us yours on Instagram with the hashtag #MTBeauty.
